San Montano Resort & Spa
First Impressions
You know what hits you first at San Montano Resort & Spa? It’s not just the stunning thermal pools or the way the property cascades down toward the sea β it’s this immediate sense that you’ve found something genuinely special on Ischia. This five-star resort sits in Lacco Ameno, which honestly feels like the island’s best-kept secret, away from the tourist crowds but close enough to everything that matters. The moment you walk through the entrance, there’s this Mediterranean elegance that doesn’t feel forced or overdone.
The Thermal Paradise
Let me tell you about the thermal pools β because this is where San Montano really shines. The property has multiple pools fed by natural hot springs, and each one has a different temperature and mineral composition. I mean, you’re literally soaking in volcanic waters while looking out at the Tyrrhenian Sea. The main thermal pool area feels like a natural amphitheater, with terraced levels that give everyone a perfect view. What’s brilliant is how they’ve designed it so you can move between different temperature zones without ever feeling crowded, even during peak season.
Rooms with a View
The accommodations here strike that perfect balance between luxury and comfort that’s actually hard to find. My room had this incredible terrace overlooking the bay β and honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting there with morning coffee. The interiors blend contemporary Italian design with subtle nods to the island’s volcanic heritage. You’ll find marble bathrooms (some with their own thermal water taps), and the beds are seriously comfortable. The sea-view rooms are worth the upgrade if you can swing it, but even the garden-view options have their charm.
Dining and Wellness
The main restaurant focuses on Campanian cuisine with a modern twist, and they source a lot of ingredients from their own gardens and local fishermen. The seafood is exceptional β I had this incredible catch of the day that was probably swimming that morning. The spa treatments incorporate the thermal waters and local ingredients like volcanic mud and Mediterranean herbs. It’s not just about relaxation; there’s actually therapeutic value to the treatments here, which makes sense given Ischia’s long history as a wellness destination.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is the location and the staff’s genuine knowledge of the island. They’ll point you toward hidden beaches, recommend the best local trattorias, and help you understand Ischia beyond the typical tourist experience. The resort attracts a sophisticated international crowd, but it never feels stuffy or pretentious. Parking is included, which is actually a big deal on the island, and the property offers boat transfers to other parts of Ischia. Couples particularly love this place β there’s something inherently romantic about soaking in thermal waters as the sun sets over the Mediterranean. It’s the kind of place where you come for a few days and leave planning your return visit.

We spent weeks traveling along the Amalfi coast and this was the most relaxing stay we had. The pools alone were beautiful but never crowded and relaxing. The shuttle into town was very easy and convenient. Breakfast was very good and staff were friendly.

Great location with exceptional views for both sunrise and sunset. Very good service throughout. We loved that the restaurant staff was very flexible to serve dishes that were not on the menu. The food quality of the restaurant was very good, as was the breakfast. What could be improved: We would have liked the possibility for earlier dinner (the...
