The entrance is understated (you might actually walk past it), but once you’re through that wooden door, the scent of orange blossoms and the sound of fountains immediately tell you this five-star riad is something special. I mean, the place has been a luxury haven since 1930, and honestly, it shows in every carefully preserved detail.

What struck me most was how they’ve managed to keep the authentic Moroccan architecture while adding modern comforts that actually work. The central courtyard with its orange trees (hence the name) becomes your personal retreat — you’ll find yourself gravitating there for mint tea, even when your room is perfectly comfortable. My suite had this gorgeous tadelakt bathroom (that’s the traditional lime plaster technique, if you’re curious) and a private terrace where you could see the Atlas Mountains on clear days. The beds are seriously comfortable, and you know what? The air conditioning actually works properly, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings.

Dining and Atmosphere

The restaurant operates more like a private dining experience — they’ll often ask what you’re in the mood for rather than just handing you a menu. The rooftop terrace becomes magical at sunset, especially with the call to prayer echoing across the city. Breakfast is served wherever you want it — courtyard, terrace, or even in your room — and they make this incredible fresh orange juice from their own trees. The spa treatments use traditional hammam techniques, though I’d recommend booking early since there are only a few treatment rooms.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try to be a big resort — it’s intimate, with only about 27 rooms, so you’re not fighting crowds for anything. The location is actually perfect for exploring the medina on foot (the souks are maybe a five-minute walk), but when you need a break from the intensity of Marrakech, you have this peaceful sanctuary to retreat to. Plus, there’s secure parking available, which is honestly a godsend if you’re planning day trips to the Atlas Mountains or Essaouira.
