L’Hôtel & Spa du Castellet
First Impressions
When you first pull up to L’Hôtel & Spa du Castellet, honestly, it’s one of those moments where you just stop and take it all in. This five-star property sits dramatically on a hillside overlooking the vineyards of Provence, and I mean — the setting alone is worth the trip. The building itself has this refined elegance that feels authentically French, not like some corporate luxury chain trying too hard.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this place apart for horse enthusiasts is the partnership with nearby riding centers in the Var countryside. You’re actually staying in wine country here, so the trail rides wind through vineyards and olive groves with those postcard-perfect Provence views. The hotel arranges everything, and they work with local stables that know these ancient paths like the back of their hand. You’ll ride through terrain that’s been cultivated for centuries — it’s riding with a serious dose of history.
Rooms and Amenities
My room had this perfect balance of modern comfort and Provençal charm, with those thick stone walls that keep things cool even in summer. The luxury here isn’t flashy — it’s more about quality linens, marble bathrooms, and windows that frame the landscape like paintings. The spa is genuinely impressive too, built into the hillside with treatment rooms that look out over the valley. After a day in the saddle, that’s exactly what you want.
Dining and Local Flavor
The restaurant focuses on local ingredients — and I’m talking really local, like herbs from their own garden and wines from vineyards you can literally see from your table. Chef Christophe Bacquié has earned his Michelin stars here, and you can taste why. Even breakfast feels special, served on the terrace with that incredible view stretching toward the Mediterranean. It’s the kind of place where you linger over coffee longer than you planned.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Le Castellet isn’t exactly bustling — it’s more of a hilltop village that time forgot, which is precisely the point. You’re close enough to the coast (about 20 minutes) if you want beach time, but far enough away to feel like you’ve discovered something authentic. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you experience how seamlessly everything works together — the riding, the wine, the luxury that doesn’t feel pretentious. It’s Provence at its most refined, without losing that rustic soul that makes this region so magnetic.

The location of this hotel for the Paul Ricard circuit was fantastic and the hotel offering a shuttle service to the circuit was beyond expectation. The food was 1st class along with the very friendly staff. Our room was exceptional with fantastic views.

Beautiful property and grounds. Exceptional staff and housekeeping. Excellent fitness offerings. Lovely and spacious junior suite accommodation!
Could be improved
Nothing significant, but the shower would have benefited from a glass door as water was not contained in the low design of the basin.

Magnificent location and property.
Golf course is a real plus 🏌️♂️
Great for families
Could be improved
Restaurants overpriced (15€ for a child portion of French fries at the pool).
Eggs have to be ordered at breakfast as an extra.

Possibly the finest hotel we have ever stayed at. From first arrival, all the staff were exceptional. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Room was upgraded to cater for my wife's disability. We were driven back and forth to the circuit everyday and made to feel like very special VIPs. Fantastic weekend. Real 5* luxury. What could be improved:...
