First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Le Place d’Armes – Relais & Châteaux feels like stepping into Luxembourg’s living room — if Luxembourg had exceptionally good taste, that is. This five-star luxury property sits right on the historic Place d’Armes square in Luxembourg City’s Ville Haute, and honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect for exploring both the old town and the riding trails beyond. The building itself has this understated elegance that whispers rather than shouts, which I actually prefer in a luxury hotel.
The Heart of Luxembourg
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally in the center of everything that matters in Luxembourg City. The Place d’Armes is where locals meet for coffee and where the Saturday market brings the whole neighborhood to life. I mean, step outside and you’re surrounded by cafés, boutiques, and those narrow cobblestone streets that lead down to the Alzette valley — perfect for morning rides through the Pétrusse Valley. The hotel’s concierge team knows all the best riding schools and trail routes within 30 minutes of the city, which saves you hours of research.
Luxury Done Right
Each room here has character — no cookie-cutter luxury nonsense. The furnishings blend classic European style with modern comfort, and the beds are honestly some of the best I’ve encountered. What really impressed me was the attention to detail: heated bathroom floors, turndown service that doesn’t feel intrusive, and blackout curtains that actually work. The suites overlooking the square give you front-row seats to Luxembourg’s daily theater, though if you’re planning early morning rides, maybe request a quieter courtyard view.
Dining and Amenities
The restaurant showcases Luxembourg’s surprising culinary scene — and I say surprising because most people don’t expect much from such a small country. Chef focuses on local ingredients with French techniques, and the wine list includes some gems from the Moselle region that you won’t find elsewhere. There’s also a cozy bar that becomes the perfect spot for post-ride drinks, especially when the weather turns crisp. The hotel doesn’t have its own spa, but they’ve partnered with a fantastic wellness center just five minutes away.
Why Equestrian Travelers Love It
Here’s what sets this place apart for horse enthusiasts: the staff genuinely understands that riding isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. They’ll arrange everything from lessons at local stables to full-day trail rides through the Ardennes forests. The hotel offers secure storage for riding gear, and they’ve got connections with excellent equestrian centers like the Centre Équestre in Mondercange — about 20 minutes away. Plus, parking is available (crucial if you’re bringing your own trailer), and they can coordinate horse transport if you’re planning something more elaborate. It’s this kind of thoughtful service that justifies the luxury price tag.

The location in the center of the city couldn’t have been better. We were directly across the street from one of the liveliest Christmas markets in the city, and close to walking to anything we wished. The onsite restaurant was superb as well.

The whole ambience was fantastic!
Could be improved
We weren’t able to drive to the door as it was in a pedestrianised area, but this was a trivial point.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! I stayed during Christmas and walked straight from the lobby into the Christmas market. The hotel bar area was a cozy place to relax. The staff were wonderful! The breakfast was delicious! The room was well appointed and spacious. I enjoyed my time and look forward to returning.

We did not like the stairs in our suite. They were steep and slippery. It was difficult at night with the bathroom down the stairs.
