The Bath Priory – A Relais & Chateaux Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the gates of The Bath Priory – A Relais & Chateaux Hotel, you’re immediately struck by how this place manages to feel both grand and intimate at once. This five-star Georgian manor sits quietly on Weston Road, just far enough from Bath‘s tourist crowds but close enough that you can walk to the Roman Baths in about fifteen minutes. The gardens alone tell you this isn’t your typical luxury hotel — they’re genuinely spectacular, with award-winning landscaping that changes dramatically with the seasons.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this place apart for horse enthusiasts is their partnership with nearby riding establishments in the Cotswolds countryside. The concierge team — and I mean this — actually knows their stuff when it comes to arranging rides through the rolling hills just outside Bath. You can book everything from gentle morning hacks suitable for beginners to full-day trail rides that take you through some of England’s most picturesque countryside. They’ll even arrange transportation to and from the stables, which honestly makes the whole experience seamless.
The Room Experience
My room overlooked those famous gardens I mentioned, and the attention to detail was remarkable without feeling stuffy. The bathrooms are genuinely luxurious — marble everywhere, but somehow it doesn’t feel cold or intimidating. What I appreciated most was the quiet; despite being in the city, you’d never know it from the peaceful atmosphere. The beds are exactly what you’d expect from a Relais & Chateaux property, though I found the Egyptian cotton linens particularly impressive.
Dining and Amenities
The restaurant here operates under chef Sam Moody, and the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. The food is sophisticated but not overly fussy — exactly what you want after a day in the saddle. There’s also a cozy bar area where you can actually have a proper conversation, plus the spa offers treatments that work wonders on riding-sore muscles. The small outdoor pool might seem modest, but it’s perfectly positioned among the gardens and feels wonderfully private.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it doesn’t try too hard to impress — the elegance feels natural rather than forced. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy working here, which makes a huge difference in how welcomed you feel. For riders specifically, it’s the combination of luxury accommodation with easy access to some of England’s best countryside that makes it special. You get the pampered hotel experience alongside authentic English riding, all while staying somewhere with real character and history. It’s expensive, sure, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Well what can we say ? The very best service, unobtrusive yet with everything provided without having to ask for it. On arrival our room was upgraded to a ground floor premium to meet my wife's disability needs. We had the bonus of a lovely balcony overlooking stunning gardens. The property itself is immaculately presented and we were shown around...
