Post Hotel & Spa Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Post Hotel & Spa on Pipestone Road, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — it’s not your typical chain hotel, and that’s exactly what makes it special. This unique boutique hotel sits right in Lake Louise, surrounded by the kind of mountain scenery that makes you forget to check your phone. The rustic log construction feels authentic rather than touristy, and you can tell this place has been welcoming travelers for decades without losing its charm.
The Riding Experience
What really sets this place apart is the trail riding access — you’re literally minutes from some of the best horse trails in the Canadian Rockies. The hotel works with local outfitters who know these mountains like the back of their hands, and I mean that. They’ll match you with horses based on your experience level, and the guides actually grew up riding these trails. You can arrange everything from gentle lakeside rides to full-day adventures up to the tea houses, though honestly, even the shorter rides give you those postcard views of Lake Louise.
Rooms and Amenities
My room had this perfect balance of rustic and comfortable — log walls but with modern heating (trust me, you’ll appreciate that in the mountains). The beds are seriously comfortable after a day in the saddle, and most rooms have mountain or forest views that beat any TV show. The spa here is something else — after spending hours on horseback, those therapeutic treatments actually make a difference, not just feel-good fluff.
Dining and Atmosphere
The restaurant sources a lot of ingredients locally, which sounds trendy but actually just makes sense up here. The elk and bison dishes are incredible, and the wine list is way better than you’d expect in a mountain town. What I really loved though was the atmosphere — it’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other guests about their riding adventures, sharing trail recommendations over dinner.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a five-star resort with marble everything, but that’s not the point. It’s got character and connects you to the landscape in a way that matters. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you realize this place delivers on what it promises — authentic mountain hospitality with easy access to world-class riding. You’re paying for the location, the experience, and honestly, the kind of memories you can’t manufacture at a generic hotel. If you’re serious about combining great riding with comfortable accommodations in one of Canada’s most stunning locations, this place gets it right.

The hotel was great. Arrived on a snowy night and it was magical pulling up to the hotel. Paths cut in the deep snow through the property almost like a maze. The staff was great. The breakfast was great. We enjoyed the causal pub restaurant. Super relaxing to sit in the lounge and listen to the piano. What could be improved: More shuttles in the...

The pool hot tub and steam room area was fantastic as were the on-site restaurants. The Post Dining room was amazing. We appreciated the extra touches like tea time and mulled wine for guests in the afternoon and freshly brewed coffee in the mornings near our room. The sitting area overlooking the ice rink was so cozy my husband fell asleep in the...

The holiday decor was warm and inviting. The dining room - both for dinner and for breakfast - was amazing, out of this world. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with good showers.

The spa services were outstanding. Thomas was an excellent masseuse and the hot stone massage was the best I have ever had.
What could be improved: The boiler went out and their back up plan could have been better serviced so it did not fail.

Went with my wife as part of our honeymoon trip and wanted to stay near lake louise. The price was fair. We felt that they cared we are on our honeymoon. Shuttle service to lake louise was very convenient. The room was great for couples with a large jet bathtub.
