First Impressions
Walking through the gates of Le Couvent des Minimes, un Hôtel & Spa L’Occitane en Provence feels like stepping into a different century — in the best possible way. This five-star property sits in a beautifully restored 17th-century convent, and honestly, the stone walls and ancient archways still carry that sense of peaceful reverence. You’re in the heart of Provence here, surrounded by lavender fields and olive groves that stretch toward the Luberon mountains. The setting is so quintessentially French that you half expect to see monks wandering the corridors (though thankfully, the luxury amenities are decidedly modern).
Location & Surroundings
Mane isn’t exactly a household name, but that’s precisely what makes this place special. You’re tucked away in authentic Provence, about 20 minutes from Forcalquier and an hour from Aix-en-Provence — close enough to explore but far enough to feel like you’ve escaped. The hotel provides free private parking, which you’ll definitely appreciate since having a car opens up the entire region. Couples absolutely love it here, and I can see why — there’s something incredibly romantic about wandering these historic grounds at sunset, with the scent of lavender drifting on the evening breeze.
The Rooms & Comfort
The accommodations strike that perfect balance between historical charm and contemporary comfort. Stone walls and exposed beams remind you of the building’s monastic past, while modern bathrooms and climate control keep you firmly in the present. What really impressed me, though, were the beds — guests consistently rave about them, and after spending a night here, I understand the fuss. There’s something about sinking into crisp linens after a day exploring Provençal villages that just feels right. Many rooms overlook the gardens or countryside, and waking up to those views never gets old.
The L’Occitane Experience
Here’s where things get interesting — this isn’t just any spa hotel. The partnership with L’Occitane means you’re getting treatments using products made right here in Provence, often with ingredients sourced from the surrounding countryside. The spa occupies part of the original convent, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more serene setting for unwinding. You know what’s clever? They’ve managed to integrate the L’Occitane philosophy throughout the property without it feeling like a marketing gimmick. The continental breakfast features local honey and preserves, and even the room amenities feel thoughtfully curated rather than just branded.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try too hard. You’re staying in a piece of history, but one that’s been carefully adapted for modern travelers who appreciate authenticity over flashiness. The staff understands that people come here to disconnect and recharge — they’re attentive without being intrusive. Whether you spend your days exploring nearby villages like Forcalquier’s famous Monday market or simply lounging by the pool with a book, Le Couvent des Minimes provides that rare combination of luxury and tranquility that’s increasingly hard to find. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay by at least another night.

What could be improved: A beautiful and stylish hotel with spacious, clean rooms and a calm atmosphere — everything feels five-star. However, there are no restaurants of the same level nearby, so guests naturally expect to dine in the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, most tables were reserved for outside visitors, and hotel guests couldn’t get a...

The second day the spa was overcrowded and there were a lot of cars parked outside indicating they open it to day passes.

We had a nightmare journey (Air Traffic Control strike). We arrived at 2 am on Saturday morning instead of 2pm on Friday after travelling for 20 hrs. I asked for a 2pm check-out on Sunday. Was told ‘It is not possible’. No explanation given. It would certainly have been a kindness.
