La Maison 20 Degrés Sud – Relais & Châteaux

Gorgeous property that feels almost secluded from everything else. You wouldn’t even expect to arrive through a normal side street.
The moment you walk in, everything is elegant and welcoming. Love the fact that it isn’t a big resort.

Rooms are big, exquisitely done and well sized. Facilities are well kept and the staff are incredibly pleasant.

What could be improved: - Management need to do a better job of relaying the value what a guest is paying for in certain packages. Having full or half board, with credit allowance is absurd (especially because they aren’t covering drinks)
The menu is well thought out and the servings generous enough to have no one overeating and in turn, abusing the “credit”.
The fact that sitting for meals doesn’t even include water, another absurdity in my extensive travel of hotels around world, and varying inclusive packages.

- The Lady Lisbeth is a MUST DO experience for anyone who hears about it.
Upon booking it, no comms come through except for the note left in my room on the bed stand, which one could miss if they bustle around the room, make a quick change of clothes and go out again.
The experience itself should also not start so late - Paying to have a multi-course dinner on a boat would be worthwhile if it didn’t start after dark. 8pm? Come on.
Arrival drinks at sunset would be more ideal then work guest into the experience and pace out the courses.
The menu itself - another complete surprise because no details are given, but if someone (like a couple who were onboard with us) is not big pm seafood, there’s no other options.

The room, ocean views and the beach setup was lovely. The music as dinner gave a nice atmosphere.

What could be improved: The dinner service was disappointing. We waited a long time to be served on both nights. We were never presented with a wine list or offered drinks other than water when we were seated. We had to ask for drinks on both nights and on each occasion the waiter would only take my order and ignored my partner. I am pregnant and could not eat majority of the starters on the menu and no alternatives were offered even though I had specified this in my dietary requirement. I expected more attention to detail.

Delicious buffet breakfast. Huge dinner menu with a set three course menu for every day of the week which can be combined with courses from a la carte menu. Works on a credit basis if on HB which gives great flexibility of choice.
Lovely staff throughout the hotel.
Gorgeous bedrooms (very comfortable beds)with roll top baths and outdoor showers. Worth paying extra for a bigger beachfront room.
Great yoga and stretch classes included twice a week.
Free bikes available for exploring local area.

What could be improved: There is no longer a beach restaurant (ie only one restaurant) so can feel a bit repetitive if there for longer than a week. Food of a very high standard but quite rich.
Wine is expensive and bottles often not available.

Beautiful location on the outskirts of Grand Baie with its own private beach area.
Unique, chalet style rooms with large bathroom, outside shower and small patio area.
Fabulous restaurant serving delicious local and French inspired cuisine. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent.
Afternoon tea and cakes.
Hotel shuttle boat across the bay to GB.
We used the complimentary bikes to cycle to Trou aux Biches and Cap Malheureux
The staff are all friendly, helpful and extremely courteous.

What could be improved: We like to walk but there wasn’t anywhere to really walk to.
