L’AND Vineyards – Relais & Châteaux

Beautiful location in the vineyards of Alentejo. Manicured property with a lake, outdoor / indoor pool and outstanding architecture and interior design. Excellent restaurant.

What could be improved: Very minor improvement could be made to the room lighting design to further enhance the cosy feeling in evening (bathroom lighting is too dark for my taste and living room could use an intermediate state between low light and full lights). It is purely matter of taste.

This was honestly the best day and stay we’ve had so far in Portugal. We were warmly welcomed and even received an upgrade at check-in, plus a complimentary bottle of their wine, which was a beautiful touch.
What really stood out was the attention to detail everywhere — in the room and throughout the common areas. In the evening, they lit a fireplace right outside our door, making it possible to sit outdoors while staying warm, with plenty of firewood to keep it going late into the night.
Even though we stayed only one night, we managed to enjoy the heated pool, the sauna, and a truly excellent breakfast — including custom orders, plus vegan and gluten-free options, which we really appreciated.
We were traveling with our baby, and they went the extra mile: they provided a crib in the room and even welcomed us with a generous fruit platter, which was perfect after a long day.
The highlight for us was the rooftop and skylight setup — being able to see the night sky from bed was unforgettable, and the whole space has a really beautiful flow between indoor and outdoor areas.
A perfect place to celebrate something special — we’ll definitely be back.

Such a beautiful place - from landscape to the room itself. Very nice design especially the huge skylight above the bed. Love the little notes from the hotel. We were there in December and it is super calm and nice. The staffs from the front reception to the restaurant and bar to the fire guy are very friendly and attentive. The SPA is great.

What could be improved: When we were there the weather was beautiful and sunny, lucky us! However, it was raining the days before we arrived and the entrance floor mat was soaked with water. Everytime we entered the room we brought wet shoe prints from the entrance mat into the room, even though it was not raining and sunny. Also the cushioned chairs on the terrace were wet from the rain and they are unable to replace dry ones for us. That is a regrettable as we have to sit on damp cushions to enjoy the amazing views. Would have been perfect otherwise.

Also loved that some breakfast items are only made on request to not cause waste 🥰

What could be improved: Had two crawly visitors on the last night. I know we are surrounded by nature, but I really dislike spiders

The Hotel is very beautiful with really nice design touches throughout. Staff is friendly and professional and made us feel welcomed. All the food we had on the property was great but a special shout out needs to go to MAPA whose tasting menu delivered us one of our top 3 meals of all time. Seriously every single dish was a banger.

What could be improved: With this in mind we were very disappointed with the spa. When everything else is so great - the spa seems like it’s part of a different hotel in terms of quality and care. Whilst aesthetically designed quite well it practically doesn’t work as it needs to. Broken door locks, shower knobs missing handles, broken floors are minor compared to the fact that the Sauna could only reach 65C in the 2 days we were there and the steam room barely has any steam. The hotel said it was because people keep adjusting the temp from the remote from the outside which is possible but I find unlikely. Such a shame as this could be a really great place.
