Farlam Hall Hotel & Restaurant
First Impressions
You know what hits you first about Farlam Hall Hotel & Restaurant? It’s not just another country house hotel — this place has genuine character that you can feel the moment you pull up the drive. The building itself is this beautiful 17th-century manor house that sits in the Cumbrian countryside like it’s always belonged there, which I suppose it has. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it, honestly. The four-star property manages to feel both elegant and welcoming without trying too hard, if that makes sense.
Location & Setting
The location near Brampton is actually brilliant — you’re tucked away in proper countryside but not completely cut off from civilization. What I love is how couples seem to absolutely adore this spot (they consistently rate it 9.5 out of 10), and I get why. You’re close enough to Hadrian’s Wall for day trips, the Lake District is within reach, and yet you feel like you’ve escaped to your own private corner of Cumbria. The gardens are lovely too — perfect for an evening stroll before dinner, which honestly becomes part of the whole experience here.
The Rooms
The rooms at Farlam Hall Hotel & Restaurant have that comfortable, lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. They’re not trying to be trendy or minimalist — instead, you get proper country house style with antique furniture, quality fabrics, and those little touches that make you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another booking. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I mean, you sleep well here), and the bathrooms are nicely updated without losing the character of the building. Each room feels individual, which is refreshing when so many places feel cookie-cutter these days.
Dining Experience
Here’s where things get really good — the restaurant side of things is taken seriously here. The full English breakfast is properly done (none of that lukewarm buffet nonsense), and dinner is the kind of experience that makes you understand why people drive out from Newcastle or Carlisle just to eat here. The menu focuses on quality ingredients, often local, prepared with skill but without unnecessary fuss. It’s the sort of place where you linger over dinner, especially since the dining room has this warm, intimate atmosphere that encourages you to take your time.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how everything works together seamlessly — the peaceful setting, the attentive but not overbearing service, the fact that you can park right there without worrying about it. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly (9.4 out of 10), and I think it’s because Farlam Hall delivers on that promise of a proper country escape. It’s the kind of place where you actually unwind, where dinner becomes an event, and where you remember why you wanted to get away in the first place. Perfect for a romantic break or just when you need to properly switch off from everything.
Travelers who book horse riding hotels juggle dawn hacks across the meadows with slow evenings by the stable yard.

So we have stayed many times at Farlam Hall over the past 20 years. However this was the first time we have visited since the new owners have renovated the property. We therefore arrived with some trepidation. We had no need to worry the transformation was outstanding! The staff were welcoming and very attentive and friendly. The food, especially...

Quiet location, warm welcome, great team and good food from the tasting menu 👌🏻

Not a particularly warm and cosy hotel, lots of beige spaces without much colour, lots of blank walls and sterile looking lounges - needs warming up!

Great dining in the Cedar restaurant. Rooms were nice and quiet. Good coffee bags in them. What could be improved: I took my Dad for his Birthday and he didn't get a card or a cake at dinner. We got it after we went to bed. Not the service I expected as a repeat visitor. Carpets in the dining room needed cleaning and I had to ask for our rooms to...

No Tea/Coffee in room. Room didn't really have anywhere to put things, most of our stuff ended up on the floor.

We were met in the car park and immediately offered help. Our rooms were ready and provided exactly what we requested. The tour of the guest areas was a lovely welcome. The attention paid to my elderly father was appreciated.
