Domaine des Andéols Overview

First Impressions

You know, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Domaine des Andéols in the Provençal countryside. It’s one of those places that doesn’t fit into neat categories — not quite a hotel, not exactly a collection of vacation rentals, but something wonderfully in-between. The property is actually made up of 19 different houses scattered across this ancient estate, and honestly, it feels more like stumbling upon a secret village than checking into a traditional hotel.

The Setting

What strikes you immediately is how untouched this corner of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt feels. We’re talking about authentic Provence here — the kind where you can walk to actual lavender fields and the nearest tourist trap is thankfully miles away. The estate sits on this gorgeous hillside where olive groves meet wild scrubland, and I mean, the morning light hitting those stone walls is something else. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the Saturday market in Apt, which locals will tell you is one of the region’s best-kept secrets.

The Houses

Each house has its own personality — some are rustic farmworker cottages, others feel more like artist retreats. I stayed in what used to be the estate’s bread oven house, complete with original stone archways and a little terrace overlooking the valley. The interiors walk this perfect line between authentic Provençal charm and modern comfort. You’ll find contemporary art mixed with antique furniture, and every room feels carefully curated without being precious about it.

Dining and Daily Life

The estate’s restaurant operates more like a communal dining experience — they source ingredients from their own gardens and local producers, and the menu changes based on what’s actually in season. Breakfast might be served on your private terrace or in the main courtyard, depending on your mood and the weather. There’s also a pool area that feels naturally integrated into the landscape, not like it was dropped in as an afterthought.

Why Guests Love It

What makes Domaine des Andéols special is how it manages to feel both secluded and connected. You’re completely immersed in this peaceful countryside setting, but the staff — who actually live locally — can point you toward hidden hiking trails, family-run wineries, and that little ceramics studio in nearby Goult that tourists never find. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because, well, why wouldn’t you want a few more days of waking up in your own Provençal house with nothing but vineyards and mountains in every direction?

Fantastic breakfast, beautiful location, very friendly and helpful staff, very peaceful and quiet, and great room! Would love to have stayed here longer!

What could be improved: Room service ordering was quite difficult and confusing. The request for a late check-out was first confirmed but then later there was confusion as to whether they could fulfill it. The swimming pools are quite shallow so it's not really meant for swimming.

- The friendless of the staff
- The calmness/quiet
- The ultra-efficient concierge service
- The local production (vegetables, olive oil, wine…)

What could be improved: - The food at the main restaurant as there were not too many options.
- The breakfast. In the price paid some more extra things should have been included (e.g. eggs or omelet)
- The service at all 3 restaurants could be improved

Everything was wonderful.

What could be improved: The only issue is that the resort is not easily accessible to strollers.

The grounds are beautiful and our room and the garden that went with it very nice. The welcome was excellent and the two meals we ate there were both delicious, although the waiting staff seemed untrained. We especially enjoyed Le Plantane Restaurant which was in a great place with a good price, food and service. The swimming pool is also very nice and in a beautiful spot.

What could be improved: We only ate one breakfast there as it was not up to expectations for the price. which was extra. In our room, whenever someone got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, the lights in the bathroom came on automatically with a motion detector which disturbed the other person who was sleeping --- and the toilet makes a noise as well when it automatically opens. There should be an option for an alcoholic welcome drink rather than just lemonade.

We recently spent five nights at Domaines des Andéols and had a mostly very enjoyable stay. The setting is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views across the Provence countryside - a perfect setting for switching off and unwinding. The grounds are beautifully maintained and thoughtfully designed, with a distinctive artistic flair throughout. Our room was comfortable and characterful, and the staff were consistently helpful and attentive, offering warm and discreet service throughout our stay. We especially loved the main pool area – scenic, (mostly) peaceful, and a real highlight of our stay, as was dining at La Platane.

What could be improved: However, there were a few disappointments. The fine dining restaurant was closed throughout our visit due to two weddings either side of our stay, and with the bar closing at 7:30pm, the food and drink options were very limited. It would have been helpful to have been notified of this in advance or offered alternative options.

The property also states it does not accept children under 10 and that the main pool is for 12+, however this policy did not appear to be enforced. During our stay, there were several guests with very young children, including families playing games in the main pool (and toddlers using the hot tub) which did impact the tranquillity of what we understood was intended to be a more adult-oriented setting.

While the property is clearly stylish, there were a few small maintenance issues that detracted slightly from the overall experience - our in-room fridge didn’t chill and there were a few fixtures and fittings in need of attention, mostly down to wear and tear. Minor details, perhaps, but for a property positioning itself at a premium level, these are things that could be easily addressed. We also felt the atmosphere in the evenings would have benefited from the simple touch of lighting the many outdoor candles, which would have added warmth and ambience.
