First Impressions
When you first arrive at Domaine de Locguénolé & Spa – Relais & Chateaux, honestly, it takes your breath away. This five-star luxury estate sits majestically on the banks of the River Blavet in Kervignac, and I mean — it’s like stepping into a fairy tale. The 19th-century château emerges from perfectly manicured gardens, with those classic French shutters and ivy-covered stone walls that make you want to grab your camera immediately.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this place apart for horse lovers is their absolutely stunning approach to riding holidays. The estate has its own stables with well-trained horses, and you know what? The trails here are something else entirely. You’ll ride through ancient Breton forests, along the riverbank, and across meadows that stretch toward the coast — it’s the kind of riding that reminds you why you fell in love with horses in the first place. The instructors are local experts who know every path and can match you with the perfect horse, whether you’re a beginner or been riding for decades.
Rooms and Luxury Touches
Each room feels like a private sanctuary — I stayed in one of the château suites and actually didn’t want to leave. The décor strikes this perfect balance between elegant French antiques and modern comfort, with plush fabrics and views that overlook either the river or those gorgeous gardens. The marble bathrooms are spacious (some even have clawfoot tubs), and there’s this attention to detail that you only find in genuine luxury properties — fresh flowers, quality linens, and those little touches that make all the difference.
Dining and Spa Indulgence
The restaurant here serves exceptional Breton cuisine with a sophisticated twist — think fresh seafood from nearby Lorient, local game, and produce from their own kitchen garden. I still dream about their lobster with Breton butter and the wine pairings (the sommelier really knows his stuff). After long days in the saddle, the spa becomes your best friend — they offer treatments using Phytomer products and have this incredible indoor pool that feels almost Roman with its arched ceiling and soft lighting.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Domaine de Locguénolé isn’t just the impeccable service or the luxury amenities — it’s how authentic everything feels. You’re not just staying at a fancy hotel; you’re experiencing genuine Breton hospitality in a setting that’s been welcoming guests for generations. The staff remembers your name, your horse preferences, even how you like your coffee. Plus, the location gives you easy access to explore the Morbihan region — medieval Vannes is just 30 minutes away, and the wild Quiberon Peninsula is perfect for a day trip. With that exceptional 9.5 rating, it’s clear that other guests feel the same way I do about this remarkable place.

The staff were wonderful and a special mention to the staff at the Spa who went out of their way to accommodate me at short notice and provided an amazing treatment. The Chateau is beautiful and the room very comfortable.

Exceptionally well renovated (beyond expectation). Marvelous setting. Great restaurant (I only ate at the bistro, the Michelin starred restaurant was booked solid during our whole stay). Close to interesting Breton village, sites and cities. We’ll definitely come back. What could be improved: Entrance gate was a bit of a hassle. Menu of the bistro...

The room was gorgeous and the bed very comfortable. Unfortunately we did not get to use the restaurant as they were fully booked, which was a letdown. We did get dinner in our room but it was a set menu so no choice. The bar was very nice.

No availability in the restaurant.
