Al Moudira Hotel
First Impressions
When you first pull up to Al Moudira Hotel, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into some sort of Arabian Nights fantasy. I mean, this five-star property on Luxor’s West Bank looks like it was plucked straight from a Moroccan dream — all intricate tilework, soaring arches, and gardens that seem to go on forever. The whole place feels like a luxury oasis, which honestly makes perfect sense given its location just minutes from the Valley of the Kings.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve woven horseback riding into the whole experience. You’re not just staying at a hotel that happens to have horses — you’re in prime territory for exploring ancient Luxor on horseback, which is actually how people have been getting around this area for centuries. The stables are impeccably maintained, and the guides know these desert trails like the back of their hand. There’s something magical about riding through the same landscapes where pharaohs once traveled, especially during those golden hour rides just before sunset.
Accommodations and Amenities
Each room here is basically a work of art — we’re talking hand-painted ceilings, custom furnishings, and bathrooms that are larger than most hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. The attention to detail is incredible, from the carved wooden doors to the traditional textiles that somehow manage to feel both authentic and luxurious. The spa treatments incorporate local ingredients and techniques, perfect for unwinding after a day in the saddle.
Dining and Social Spaces
The main restaurant serves this wonderful mix of Egyptian and international cuisine, but honestly, I found myself eating outside in the gardens most evenings. There’s something about dining under the stars with the sound of the Nile in the distance that just works. The staff somehow manages to anticipate what you need before you even ask — more water after your ride, a late dinner because you got caught up watching the sunset, that sort of thing.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Luxor can be overwhelming with all the tour groups and tourist traps, but Al Moudira feels like your own private sanctuary. The West Bank location means you’re away from the main city hustle, yet you can still easily reach all the major sites — many of which are actually better accessed on horseback anyway. It’s the kind of place where you can spend your morning exploring ancient tombs and your afternoon lounging by the pool, all while feeling like you’re part of something genuinely special rather than just another tourist passing through.

The extraordinarily beautiful architecture; fantastic gardens; idyllic pool; lovely staff and proximity to the Valley of the Kings. Out initial welcome in the bar with a tamarind (?) juice and pistachios while we were checked in set the scene for a fabulous stay of a lifetime. The tours we booked through the hotel were great, especially with our...

Maybe it's a bit expensive for me so it doesn't give the chance to stay more nights.

Beautiful gardens and rooms. Very nice butler service, drivers and guides. Bath sea salt a plus. Comfy bed. What could be improved: Felt the constant tipping culture takes away from enjoying the hotel and trips. Felt I have to constantly carry cash and calculate what I should be giving. At the end it’s more comfortable to just stay in your room. I...

Al Moudira is truly exceptional — romantic, peaceful, and full of charm. The lush gardens are stunning, and the farm-to-table food was a highlight of our trip. Our room was beautiful, and we were delighted to receive an upgrade, which made the stay even more special.
A unique, soulful place we’d return to in a heartbeat.
