The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa Overview

First Impressions

The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa sits on 2,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains like it owns the place — and honestly, it sort of does. This four-star resort has been welcoming guests since 1766, which means it’s been perfecting the art of mountain hospitality for longer than America has been a country. When you pull up that winding drive through the Virginia highlands, you’ll understand why presidents and movie stars have been making the trek to Hot Springs for generations.

The Historic Charm

Walking through the grand lobby feels like stepping into a different era — think Persian rugs, crystal chandeliers, and enough Southern charm to make you slow down whether you want to or not. The architecture is this fascinating mix of Georgian and Colonial Revival that somehow doesn’t feel stuffy or museum-like. You know what really gets me? The way they’ve managed to keep all that historical character while actually making the place functional for modern travelers. The Wi-Fi works, the air conditioning hums along quietly, and nobody’s making you feel guilty for wanting both history and comfort.

Rooms and Amenities

My room overlooked the Cascades Golf Course, and I’ll admit I spent more time than necessary just watching the morning mist roll off those fairways. The accommodations feel appropriately grand without being over-the-top — we’re talking quality linens, solid furniture that isn’t trying too hard, and bathrooms that actually have decent water pressure. The spa is where things get interesting though, especially if you’re into the whole natural hot springs thing that put this place on the map originally.

Dining and Activities

The main restaurant serves up solid American fare with enough Southern touches to remind you you’re in Virginia — their trout is particularly good if you’re into that sort of thing. But here’s what I really appreciated: they’ve got multiple dining options so you’re not stuck eating the same menu every night. The golf courses are legitimately challenging (Sam Snead was the pro here for decades), and there’s enough outdoor stuff to keep you busy if sitting by the pool isn’t your speed. The bowling alley in the basement is this weird throwback that somehow works perfectly.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place where you’re going to find cutting-edge design or trendy cocktails — and that’s exactly the point. People come here because it feels like a real escape from all that noise, where you can actually hear yourself think and maybe remember why you liked spending time outdoors in the first place. The staff treats you like they’re genuinely glad you’re there, not like they’re working from some customer service script. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself parking the car on Friday and not really thinking about leaving until Sunday checkout forces your hand.

Great people, lots of things to do, plenty of places to eat.

What could be improved: The heater didn’t work on our sun porch. The hotel did their best to get it to work. Unfortunately, it took most of our stay to fix it so we couldn’t use the room. Outside temps were 20 degrees.

After reading many reviews and researching the property I decided to treat myself to a bit of a splurge gift for my birthday. It was quite an expense, and drive, but I had a lovely stay. Although the room was quite basic for the price, I made the most of my time at the resort by exploring all components of the property. The amenities that were open at this time of the year were well maintained and enhanced my experience. Simply walking throughout the resort, the external grounds (hiking trail/golf course) and the small downtown area, was a rewarding aspect of my stay. In addition, I had a relaxing spa day, which was the purpose of my selection of this location, and I enjoyed all of my meals throughout the stay. The gaming area has some fun indoor activities (ie bowling) if the weather is less than ideal outside or later at night. Visiting the warm springs twice was a true highlight of my visit, and left me feeling fully relaxed as I returned to everyday life.
Finally, I truly appreciated the service I received throughout my stay. I want to take a moment to recognize the following individuals for helping me make the most of my stay:
Steve was very welcoming upon my arrival and provided great insights about the warm springs and area. He was also very helpful to other guests as I watched him engage no matter what questions he was asked.
Amber at the front desk was very meticulous in the registration and onboarding process. She also provided me with a late checkout that allowed me to enjoy an uninterrupted stay at the spa.
Amber at the concierge desk was very patient and helped me work through a number of scenarios to create a schedule of spa services and warm springs visits that were exactly what I needed to fully enjoy my stay/birthday.
Aoife was very professional in her presentation of the wine flight I took, and she was so personable that we had a great conversation as I indulged.
In addition, I don't want to forget Christopher, Ivy and Hannah!

What could be improved: I feel as though the room I was given was because I reserved through Booking.com and it was definitely not what I had expected for the price I paid. I recognize that this is a resort, but the cost was quite high for the off season (before the major holiday rush and with limited amenities) and for the space I was provided. I won't even get into the view that wasn't. In addition, I had somehow missed the $39 a night parking fee, which was one of many fees throughout what was already an expensive visit (ie. 22% automatic gratuity for the spa service). I'm sure there are many people who don't travel on a budget, but for those who do, the extra costs added up and put a bit of a damper on my overall experience.

It's just a beautiful place to stay. Lots of activities for the entire family. We loved walking around and seeing all the beautiful grounds. The wine tasting room was lovely.

What could be improved: We were disappointed that one of the restaurants was closed at random times. It was hard to figure out where to eat.
We had valet service, and one day they were driving our vehicle back for us and a random stranger got out of our vehicle on the passenger side. The valet driver said he gave her a ride. We were so surprised that we didn't say much while getting into our vehicle. Later on after we thought about it. We were rather annoyed by the experience and thought it was rather unsafe. We told the front desk, but they didn't seem too concerned. Made us nervous to use the service again. Wish they had validated our concerns.

What could be improved: Menu selection in restaurants.

The spa was great and so was the convenience of transportation to and from the warm spring pools.

What could be improved: The food at the resort restaurants was not very good, and it was overpriced. If I’d know that, I would have brought food or tried to find a place to eat outside of the resort.
