La Pyramide – Maison Henriroux
First Impressions
When you pull up to La Pyramide – Maison Henriroux on Boulevard Fernand Point, you immediately sense you’re somewhere special. This four-star property sits in the heart of Vienne — not the famous Austrian capital, but the charming French town just south of Lyon that food lovers whisper about. The building itself has this elegant restraint that screams serious gastronomy without being stuffy about it.
The Equestrian Connection
What drew me here initially was their partnership with local riding stables in the Rhône Valley. You’re about twenty minutes from some absolutely gorgeous trail riding through vineyards and along the Rhône riverbanks. The hotel arranges everything — they actually know which outfitters have the calmest horses if you’re rusty, and which guides speak decent English. I mean, you don’t stay at La Pyramide just for the horses, but it’s honestly a perfect base for combining serious riding with equally serious eating.
The Room Experience
My room overlooked the hotel’s garden courtyard, and I’ll tell you what — the soundproofing here is something else. You’d never guess you’re on a main boulevard. The interiors feel authentically French without being precious about it, with beautiful fabrics and that kind of furniture that’s clearly expensive but doesn’t scream at you. There’s this attention to detail that extends right down to the bathroom amenities.
The Legendary Restaurant
Look, you probably know La Pyramide’s reputation already, but experiencing the restaurant firsthand is something different entirely. This is where Fernand Point basically invented modern French cuisine, and current chef Patrick Henriroux keeps that legacy alive without being trapped by it. The wine list focuses heavily on local Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu — which makes perfect sense when you’re literally in their backyard — but honestly, just let the sommelier guide you.
Why Guests Love It
What really gets people about this place is how it manages to be simultaneously world-famous and genuinely welcoming. The staff treats horse-dusty riders with the same warmth as Michelin-chasing foodies, which isn’t as common as you’d think at places of this caliber. Plus, Vienne itself is this wonderful discovery — Roman ruins, medieval streets, and you’re close enough to Lyon for day trips but far enough away to actually relax. The hotel maintains this 9.1 rating because it delivers on every level without making a big show of it.

The hotel was luxurious, and we had an exceptional meal at La Pyramide, the 2 Michelin Star restaurant. Everything about this hotel and the professional staff made our stay very special.
Dr
Delicious and served to us by Monsieur Henrroux personally
Hana
From the moment we drove to the gated parking lot, we were taken exceptional care of by the hotel staff. The room (and its bathroom) was great. And the restaurant, where we ate dinner, offered us an excellent culinary experience! The hotel is a calm place to stay in a picturesque town full of history on the river Rhône. I just wished we planned...

great bathroom. comfortable beds. the best croissants.

although the pavement and street the hotel is located on has been upgraded, the pavements and roads in Vienne itself showed a lack of maintenance and care. this is obviously not a ctiticism of the hotel, but rather the local government.
