Chewton Glen Hotel – an Iconic Luxury Hotel
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Chewton Glen Hotel – an Iconic Luxury Hotel, honestly, I wasn’t prepared for just how grand it would feel. This five-star estate sits on 130 acres of Hampshire countryside, and you can tell immediately that this isn’t your typical hotel — it’s more like staying at an English lord’s private residence. The main building dates back to the 1700s, and there’s something genuinely magical about the way it emerges from all that greenery as you wind up the drive.
Location & Riding Experience
What makes this place special for equestrians is its proximity to the New Forest — you’re literally minutes away from some of England’s most spectacular riding terrain. The hotel works with local stables that know these ancient woodlands inside and out, and I mean, where else can you gallop alongside wild ponies that have roamed freely here for centuries? New Milton itself might be a small town, but you’re perfectly positioned between the forest trails and the coast — the beach rides are something else entirely.
The Room
My room overlooked the grounds, and honestly, waking up to that view never got old. The luxury here isn’t flashy — it’s that understated English elegance where everything just works perfectly. The bathroom was enormous (heated floors, which you don’t expect but absolutely appreciate), and the bed was one of those you sink into and immediately sleep better than you have in months. What I loved was how they managed to blend traditional charm with modern comfort without making it feel forced.
Dining & Amenities
The main restaurant has a Michelin star, and after eating there, I get why. But what surprised me was how relaxed it felt — you can absolutely show up after a day of riding without feeling underdressed. The spa became my go-to after long days in the saddle; their treatment menu includes options specifically designed for riders, which shows they really understand their clientele. There’s also a gorgeous pool area that feels like a secret garden tucked away from everything.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place isn’t cheap, but you’re paying for an experience you genuinely can’t get elsewhere. The staff treats you like family — they remembered my name from day one and somehow always knew exactly what I needed. For riders, the combination of world-class accommodations with direct access to some of England’s most historic riding country is pretty much unbeatable. Plus, the parking situation is completely stress-free, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling riding gear around.

Very comfortable and surrounding outside well worth visiting. Enjoyed the jacuzzi, swimming pool and sauna, plenty of towels etc What could be improved: The golf short course was good but would suggest they show signs to the 1st hole which I could not find, so I started at the 2nd hole and they misdirected the 9th hole. Also the following day I...

I did not carry out a full research when I initially booked but it was a splendid surprise. The grounds are amazing and my daughter loved it.

If I could paint a picture of the most perfect and beautiful country house hotel, this would be it! CG is a little piece of relaxing heaven with an elegant yet homely feel. My husband and I are regular visitors, we hosted our wedding reception here in 2019 and have since loved returning time and time again to kick back and immerse in luxury and...
