This restored medieval borgo sits on 750 acres of rolling hills about 20 minutes from Volterra, and I mean, the drive alone through those winding cypress-lined roads tells you you’re somewhere special. The four-star property has this wonderful way of feeling both grand and intimate at the same time.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this place apart is their horse program — they’ve got about 20 horses ranging from gentle trail companions to more spirited rides for experienced equestrians. The stables are tucked into the hillside, and the riding trails wind through olive groves and vineyards that have been here for generations. You can actually arrange everything from beginner lessons in their covered arena to full-day excursions across the Tuscan countryside, and the guides know these ancient paths like the back of their hand.
Accommodations & Grounds
The rooms are scattered across several restored stone buildings, each with thick walls that keep things wonderfully cool even in summer heat. My room had original terracotta floors and this massive wooden beam ceiling — plus a view over the valley that made getting out of bed genuinely difficult. There’s a beautiful infinity pool that seems to drop right into the landscape, and the organic garden supplies much of what ends up on your plate at the on-site restaurant.
Local Flavor & Activities
The property produces its own olive oil, wine, and honey — you know what, you can actually participate in the harvest if you time your visit right in autumn. Beyond riding, there are cooking classes using ingredients from their garden, and they’ll arrange truffle hunting expeditions with local hunters and their dogs. The nearby village of Pignano is tiny but charming, and Volterra itself is worth spending a full day exploring those Etruscan walls and medieval streets.

I enjoyed every moment of my stay . So magical view of Tuscan landscape , and unforgettable sunset. All food & horses and staff were extraordinary and paying attentions to every details.
