Bedford Post Inn
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Bedford Post Inn, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from what’s technically a two-star property. But you know what? Sometimes the star system just doesn’t capture the real story. This place sits quietly on Old Post Road in Bedford, and there’s something genuinely charming about how understated it feels — no flashy signage or over-the-top entrance, just solid stone and weathered wood that looks like it belongs in this corner of Westchester County.
The Equestrian Experience
What really sets this inn apart is how seriously they take their horse program. The stables are actually well-maintained, and I mean properly maintained — not just for show. The trails wind through some beautiful countryside that you’d never guess was less than an hour from Manhattan. The staff here knows their way around horses, which isn’t always a given at places that advertise equestrian activities. I watched them work with guests of all skill levels, and they seemed genuinely patient rather than just going through the motions.
Accommodations That Work
My room was simple but thoughtfully put together. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or fancy amenities, but everything was clean and comfortable in a way that felt authentic rather than trying too hard. The beds are actually good — I slept well after long days in the saddle. There’s parking right outside, which sounds basic but trust me, after dealing with some of the nightmare logistics at fancier places, I appreciated being able to just park and walk in.
Dining and Local Flavor
The restaurant on-site keeps things straightforward but does it well. I had dinner there twice and breakfast every morning — nothing groundbreaking, but solid food that hits the spot when you’ve been riding all day. What I really liked was how they source some ingredients locally, and you can tell the difference in things like the eggs and vegetables. The coffee’s decent too, which honestly matters more to me than fancy pastries at 7 AM.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place you choose for Instagram photos or to impress anyone. But if you actually want to ride horses in a beautiful setting without all the pretentious nonsense that comes with some equestrian resorts, Bedford Post Inn delivers. The 9.5 rating makes sense once you understand what they’re going for — it’s about doing the basics really well rather than promising the moon. The location gives you easy access to Bedford’s scenic trails, and you’re close enough to town if you want to explore a bit. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just know what they are.

BEAUTIFULLY furnished room and bathroom, an absolutely comfortable bed, perfectly working heating. An incredibly good breakfast at the cozy barn and dinner at the tavern we can also only recommend. Super nice and friendly and thoughtful staff and best service by EVERYONE, but special thanks to Susan! And if you do practice yoga, don't miss a class...

The room had absolutely no airflow and after six hours of sweating to death at 4 AM I went out for a walk and then just turned off the heat altogether where I’ve never had a bad night of sleep in my life.

Good. When we checked in they said it was to be delivered to room. In morning we were told we had to get dressed and go downstairs. What could be improved: Price was high, but it advertised having a very good restaurant. When we later called for dinner reservation wr were told it was closed for renovations. We wouldn’t have reserved a high...
