A Quinta Da Auga Hotel Spa Relais & Chateaux
First Impressions
The moment I walked into A Quinta Da Auga Hotel Spa Relais & Chateaux, I knew this wasn’t your typical Santiago hotel. This four-star property sits along the peaceful Paseo da Amaia, and honestly, it feels more like discovering someone’s elegant countryside estate than checking into a standard city hotel. The 18th-century Galician manor has this understated charm that immediately made me slow down and breathe deeper.
Location & Setting
What I love about this place is how it manages to feel completely removed from the bustle of Santiago de Compostela while actually being just a short walk from the old town. The hotel is surrounded by its own gardens and sits right by the Sarela River — you can actually hear the water flowing from some of the rooms, which is pretty magical. It’s the kind of spot where pilgrims finishing the Camino often choose to decompress, and you’ll understand why once you’re there.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect blend of historic character and modern comfort that you don’t always find in restored manor houses. The stone walls and wooden beams reminded me I was staying somewhere with real history, but the bathroom was completely contemporary with a rainfall shower that I may have used twice in one evening. The beds are seriously comfortable — after weeks of walking the Camino, I can tell you that matters more than you might think.
Dining & Spa
The restaurant here focuses on Galician cuisine, and their take on pulpo a la gallega was honestly some of the best I had during my entire time in the region. They source a lot of ingredients locally, which you can taste in everything from the seafood to the vegetables. The spa is where this place really shines though — the treatments incorporate local elements, and after a session in their hydrotherapy circuit, I felt like a completely different person.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about A Quinta Da Auga that just works. Maybe it’s how the staff treats you like family without being overly familiar, or how you can sit in the gardens with a glass of Albariño and watch the river flow by. The hotel attracts an interesting mix of Camino pilgrims treating themselves after their journey and couples looking for a romantic getaway that’s not too precious or stuffy. With a 9.2 rating, it’s clear I’m not the only one who felt this way — this place has figured out how to make you feel genuinely relaxed without trying too hard to impress you.

A fantastic hotel for a weekend getaway with family, in nature, offering spa treatments and a focus on spirituality (Santiago). The hotel’s restaurant is also exceptional!

The property was immaculate and beautifully decorated with so much fabulous stuff to see and experience. It was a feast for the senses. The staff were incredible - best customer service I’ve experienced in a while - there were lots of ways they made our stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. The spa was an incredible feature and added a...

It’s honestly disappointing that in the 21st century, a so-called luxury hotel still charges guests extra to use the spa. When you’re paying premium rates, basic wellness facilities should be included - it feels outdated and stingy for a hotel claiming to offer a top-tier experience

Everything was incredible. The room was gorgeous and peaceful. The bed was luxurious. The staff and the facilities were fantastic. Service was excellent. I love that they had a café that was open all day until midnight so I didn’t have to fit into the strict eating timelines of the rest of Spain. Everything was easy. There is even a grocery store 8...
